From Kathy’s Heart…
Spring 2007
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Psalm 8:1
Springtime fills me to overflowing. And because my writing day is spent in front of an enormous window that seems almost to draw the outside in, I get to observe some things up close that most people would never even notice. At the moment, I’m enthralled with the red-winged blackbird. We’ve all been inundated with flocks of blackbirds and grackles that converge on our yards at various times of the year. They can be loud and annoying, and the sheer numbers a bit intimidating. I always thought blackbirds were pretty blah—until I actually started to pay attention.
Just look at the vivid shoulder patches on this guy! The color is almost completely hidden until he takes flight—or fluffs out his wings, which happens most often when he’s singing. It made me think about how often we fail to see the beauty in one other because we don’t look for it. Just something to think about.
The Latest On My Books
The first Phantom Hollow Series book, Ever Present Danger, has a shelf date of April 17. This book is a big hit with reviewers and endorsers, and I hope the story entertains and blesses you! Go to www.kathyherman.com and read a sample chapter. I am thoroughly enjoying writing this series and can hardly wait for you to meet Ivy Griffith.
I’ve also finished the second Phantom Hollow book, Never Look Back, and have provided a teaser and sample chapter on my website. I’m currently writing the third book this series, The Grand Scheme. Phantom Hollow is as real to me now as Baxter and Seaport—and I hope you’re going to enjoy reading it as much as I’m enjoying the writing.
There are more than 200,000 Kathy Herman novels in print now. Thanks so much for your support and input!
Hodgepodge Events
I have a busy spring schedule with radio interviews and promotions for the release of Ever Present Danger, and a deadline for completing the manuscript for the final book in the Phantom Hollow Series.
Also, on April 25, I’m going to be present at a very special event held here in my hometown called “Women’s Night Out.” It’s a great place for gals to get away and enjoy a relaxing evening of being pampered, and also a great place for me to introduce my books to new friends.
One for the Record Books

| Our first snow since who-knows-when in East Texas came the day before Easter after we had enjoyed some eighty-degree days. It didn’t stick but kept Paul and me (and our first hummingbird of the spring) enthralled for hours as it floated down against a backdrop of lush green. For those of you who are used to snow, this may not seem like a big deal. But here in Texas, this was a spring phenomenon for the record books! |
