Indigo Buntings

Indigo buntings sing with cheerful gusto and look like a scrap of sky with wings. They are sometimes called blue canaries because they whistle their bouncy songs through the late spring and summer all over eastern North America. They are one of the most exciting birds for me to watch for in the spring. I’m not always fortunate enough to spot them at the feeder. And when I do, they’re shy and a challenge to photograph. But what a feast for the eyes!
